17th August 2009: Swine Flu Death Toll in India Reaches 28

With increased death reports in different parts of the country, the death toll has been taken as high as 28. The two deaths reported on August 15th in Bangalore added up to the earlier figure to make it 25 on Saturday. The fatalities were Shivanna, aged 55 who passed away at the Wockhardt Hospital located along the West Bangalore and the other was Manjunath who was 28 years old and took his last breath at Vydehi Medical Institute along Eastern Bangalore.

Today three more deaths added to toll in India making it 28. The first two were reported at Bangalore city. Shamshad Begum, 27-years-old was brought into Baptist Hospital on 10th of August due to lack of proper breathing and she has been suffering from the same for the past three months.

The first death was at Pune at Sasoon hospital where the treatments for patients tested positive has been successfully going on. The death of 36 year old woman at the hospital marked the 13th death due to swine flu in the city. At first, pneumonia symptoms were shown by her and it was only later that she was figured out to be positive for the throat swab test.

27-year-old Shilpa was the other victim who fell for the virus today. She was taken to St.John’s hospital on 12th of August. She was suffering from bodyache, cough and cold. The administrators say that she was given Tamiflu tablets even before the results were out but unfortunately could not survive the deadly virus.

Two deaths today take the swine flu death toll of Bangalore to 5 and that of the country to 28.
