The traders and the Musalmans talk about the expense chart which has been made unbearable by the price hike of dry fruits, sugar, fruits and other items which are arranged for ifthar.
By Saturday, the Muslims in the state started their fasting in the holy month of Ramadan. Compared to that of the last year, the food products have become more costly especially dates which are consumed for majority of Muslim during ifthar.
Ifthar is known to be the first meal of the day which breaks the day long fast. Dates are considered to be the traditional fruit during this time whereas lemon juice as the traditional drink.
One of the retailers explained inflation as:
"Ordinary dates, which were priced in the range of Rs.54 to Rs.254 a kilogram till recently, are now costlier by Rs.40. And dry dates, which were priced between Rs.850 to Rs.1, 200, are dearer by 20 percent now. This time products came from new markets like Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt."
The price of sugar has been hiked to around Rs.32 per kilogram which was just Rs.25 a few days back. In case of lemon, price per kilogram is Rs.70 now where it was just Rs.40 to Rs.50 very recently.
