Nobel Prize for Peace Awarded to Obama Comes out with Mixed Reactions



Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize 2009 was of course shocking news for the entire nation and it was also chosen out to be the bold choice. The same news came out with a huge roar of mixed emotions all across asking whether it isn’t it too early for this position as it is just nine months he took the post of First African American President?

According to New York Times: “The stunning surprise announcement coming extraordinarily early in Mr.Obama’s presidency – less than nine month after he took office as the first African American president – shocked people from Norway to Washington.”

The White House was simply unaware of this great ceremony being coming on its way. There were no comments from the White House. The Press Secretary was the person who woke up the President with the good news at 6 a.m.

It was declared by the Forbes magazine of US that the selection of 2009 was the “Novel’s Bold Choice”.

Thekkady Boat Tragedy Sweeps off 42 victims

As the excavation for the dead bodies continues day and night in the Thekkady boat tragedy in Kerala, the current news states that the total died has touched 42. The boat carried 76 passengers, consisting mostly of tourists from Delhi, Bangalore, Tamil Nadu and foreigners. It was turned upside down in the Periyar wildlife sanctuary in Thekkady at around 5.15pm. From Thursday, the site has been occupied by a 24 member team of the Indian Navy looking out for more dead bodies.

According to the sources, the total number of dead or those alive has not been ascertained yet as it has been said that many of the foreign tourists swam for their safety. The Chief Minister of Kerala, V.S Achuthanandan said, “We have decided to hold a judiciary inquiry by a sitting judge of the Kerala High Court. We have also decided to sanction an ex-gratia of Rs. 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased.

Embalming of the dead bodies found till now are being one at Thiruvalla after which the body will be sent to homes.

Celebrating Eid


Most parts of the world including India celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr yesterday 21st September Monday. This marks the end of the month of Ramadan and the start of the next month Shawwal. Due to heavy rains in most parts of the country especially Kerala, Eid Garhs were cancelled and prayers were held within the mosque itself.

On the day of Eid, Muslims wake up much early to perform their ‘Subah’ namaz after which they have a slight food so as to mark the end of the holy month. New dresses are worn and special prayers are offered at mosques and huge grounds along with wishing and embracing brothers and loved ones. Special blessings are asked to the Lord Almighty and this day marks the polishing of relationships and so relatives get together spend time and enjoy exchanging their thoughts and being in touch.

This day symbolizes many thoughts including peace of congregation, moral victory, brotherhood unity, forgiveness as well as fellowship.
