The US Open Organizers fined the great player, Serena Williams for her tirade which was shown to the line judge on losing the semi-final against Kim Clijsters.
"Inappropriate and unprofessional" was the two words which pointed her attitude and this was conveyed by the WTA Tour Chief Stacey Allaster. She also added to comment on this as:
"No matter what the circumstances, no player should be allowed to engage in such behaviour without suffering consequences. Serena is a great player who has done so much for our sport and I am certain she will continue to be a role model to millions of young women who want to play the game and excel as Serena has done. As a role model, it's important for a leader like Serena to step forward and recognize her behavior last night was unacceptable."
Williams was already handed with the code violation for racquet abuse, she just bursted out at the line judge by just moving by to her. All this happened when the wild card Belgian was waiting for the next point. She was subjected to point penalty which was the next height of punishment given after the first violation and thus Clijsters won the match. Also, the $10,000 has been the greatest on-site penalty which could be issued to any Grand Slam Tennis tournament.
Later, Serena Williams turned out to apologize for her fault and even told that she was also human. She added to her statement:
"Last night everyone could truly see the passion I have for my job," her statement read. Now that I have had time to gain my composure, I can see that, while I don't agree with the unfair line call, in the heat of battle I let my passion and emotion get the better of me and as a result handled the situation poorly.”
"I would like to thank my fans and supporters for understanding that I am human and I look forward to continuing the journey, both professionally and personally, with you all as I move forward and grow from this experience."
